This is the Meaning of Fasting Instilled by Rizky Billar in Abang L

Educating children about the meaning of worship requires extra patience, which is what Rizky Billar is currently experiencing. To his first son, Abang L, Billar gives a fairly deep explanation about the essence of performing the fast.

He does not want his child to merely follow along without understanding the noble purpose behind refraining from thirst and hunger. Billar emphasizes that fasting is a means to train oneself in various aspects of life, especially emotional control.

Rizky Billar together with Lesti Kejora strive to provide an understanding that fasting is a way to be grateful. The main focus is on how a Muslim can become a more patient person in facing all situations.

"Yes, both my wife and I teach that fasting is a way for us to train our patience, a way for us to be grateful, a way for us to resist our desires. So it's not just about resisting hunger and thirst, but also controlling other desires like anger, lust, and so on," said Rizky Billar when met in the Ampera area, South Jakarta, Thursday (5/3/2026).

Considering that Abang L is still under five years old, Billar adjusts his language to make it easy to understand. He provides simple examples from daily life related to self-control.

This is done so that the child has a strong moral foundation from a young age. He explains the various desires that humans have to his child.

"Various kinds of desires, you know. But for Abang L, I explain that it’s just a desire for us not to hate, not to gossip about others, and not to get angry. Because it really needs to be emphasized that emotional feelings during fasting are important," he added.

Billar's hope is that Abang L grows up to be a person with a calm and polite personality. This character education is considered as important as formal education for the future of their son.

"We have indeed always taught religious education and character education from an early age, including fasting," emphasized the husband of Lesti Kejora.
