Tompi's Story of Being Offered a Legislative Candidacy, Interest Faded Due to This

In his latest Instagram post, Tompi admitted that since the last two election periods, he has been approached by several parties to run as a legislative candidate. The offers came seriously, even involving party leaders in direct dialogue.

This plastic surgeon and singer revealed that he had a desire to run. "There was a desire to do so, because there is a wish to improve and help. Dialogues took place. And directly with key leaders from several parties. I think it's good to just listen first, explore, think, and then decide if I want to sail with the chosen ship." Said Tompi.

However, at the last minute, he decided to withdraw. "All the offers sounded sincere. I was almost ready to go ahead. But at the last minute, I canceled my choice. Because of several reasons." He added.

One of the main reasons is personal financial conditions. "I am not yet finished with myself financially, I am very afraid this will become a temptation to be inconsistent in being honest and trustworthy," he wrote.

In addition, Tompi admitted he is worried about not being able to divide his time between his profession as a doctor, musician, and politician. He realizes the great responsibility that must be undertaken if he chooses the political path.

Tompi also mentioned that the political system he sees from the outside is something he cannot comprehend with common sense. From issues of campaign financing to binding party rules, it makes him hesitant.

He emphasizes that he finds it difficult to compromise on things he considers wrong. Even in the medical field, Tompi admits he is often seen as 'hard to manage' because of his courage to speak out against what is wrong.

"Another trivial reason: not wanting to be a member/subordinate of a group led by someone who sits there due to the factor of 'old-timer or lineage' which is not supported by nourishing background knowledge." Tompi explained.

Finally, the strongest reason is not receiving approval from his mother and wife. "Didn’t get approval from my mother and wife," he wrote with an added emoticon. This actor was the one who determined the cancellation of the political move.

Tompi expressed his hope that the current political condition in Indonesia is much better than before. He conveyed this with an optimistic tone while remaining cautious.
