Too Close to Personal Life, Dennis Adhiswara Shocked When Offered to Star in the Film 'COCOTE TONGGO'

Dennis Adhiswara is trusted to play the character Luki in the film COCOTE TONGGO. This film is the latest work of Bayu Skak, produced by Tobali Film and Skak Studios.

In the story, Luki is a husband who sells fertility herbal medicine with his wife, Murni. However, the couple must face pressure from their surroundings because they have not been blessed with children. "So actually when I was offered this role, it was about 40 days before shooting, really 40 days," said Dennis when met in Cilandak, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (15/4/2025).

Dennis admitted that he was initially hesitant to accept this role because he felt it was too close to his personal situation. He was undergoing a pregnancy program with his wife when he was offered the script. "Honestly, when I first heard it, I was a bit shocked, because there seemed to be similarities with my personal life, which was indeed in a child program and trying to have a child. I kept wondering," he said.

After reading the script more deeply, Dennis realized there were many dialogues in the film that felt like things he had experienced. This made him panic and question whether he was suitable for this role. "I kept asking, am I the right person, am I fit for this, even though I was having a bit of a panic attack, it felt too close, plus after I studied the script, the lines that came out from both of our characters and the character who gossips, felt like we had heard them too," Dennis revealed.

In the end, Dennis decided to make his role a form of encouragement for other couples struggling to have children. He feels this is the best way to share his feelings with the public.

"At that moment I was nervous, but what made me confident was, wait a minute, maybe this feeling is also felt by other couples who are trying to have children," he said.

"That’s where I immediately changed my perspective from being afraid to let this film follow my point of view, to encourage friends who are trying to have children, so I joined in, and I met all my friends, honestly it felt like storytelling together, it was really enjoyable," she added.

Meanwhile, Ayushita, who plays Murni, said that this film is very relevant to the current social phenomena. She believes that neighbors who like to comment are still commonly found, both directly and on social media.

"Well, that’s it, this film indeed wants to capture the phenomenon of gossiping neighbors. Gossiping neighbors are not only in the real world, right, but they might also exist on social media," said Ayushita.

According to Ayushita, the theme feels very universal and can be felt by anyone. She hopes this film can entertain while also serving as a social reflection for the audience.
