Worried About Safety, Haykal Kamil Renovates His Parents' House Damaged by Termites

Kapanlagi.com - Haykal Kamil is currently trying to repair his parents' house that has just suffered serious damage to the ceiling due to a termite infestation. According to him, this condition requires comprehensive repairs, and he has contacted workers from his office to handle it immediately.

"I need help, please help me figure out how to do this. I was given a quote, and I finally said okay. Let's just go ahead with it because it's really heavy if we don't do anything for those living in that house," said Haykal Kamil in the Depok area recently.

1. Fear of Trauma

The house has become a daily residence for his elderly parents, while Haykal's toddler niece often plays there. Haykal is worried that the little child might experience trauma or fear returning to the damaged area of the house.

"Because that house is used for activities, right? Mom and Dad live there, and they are getting older. Plus, there's my little niece," he said.

"So I'm afraid that the little child might be scared being around there. Just imagine a one-year-old witnessing an event like that. I'm worried that she might become afraid to go back to that area," he added.

2. Parents Evacuate

In this repair process, Haykal is considering a temporary option for his parents to move to his sister's house, Zaskia Mecca, which happens to be empty since Zaskia is currently in Syria.

"Sister Iya (Zaskia Mecca) is actually in Syria, so she is not in Indonesia. Her house is empty, so it's possible that my mom might be there during the day," he said.

However, Haykal expressed that his mother feels more comfortable staying in their own house, even if just at night.

"But it seems like at night she doesn’t want to, she said she still wants to be at home. Maybe parents prefer to be in their own house," he said.

3. Damaged House Area

Haykal explained that the damage occurred in an area that was just built five years ago, not in the front part of the house which is much older. He mentioned that his father believes the old area of the house is still quite safe, so he doesn't feel the need to move. Nevertheless, Haykal still feels uneasy about the risks from the fragile structure.

"Well, just yesterday dad explained, this is the new area, not the old area. This area was built only 5 years ago. It's different from the front area, the front area has been around for a long time, it has always been there since the beginning. So dad's projection should be safe because this is not the main area," he said.

4. Causes of House Damage

Termites, which are the main cause of this house damage, made Haykal realize the importance of regular maintenance. He stated that they had previously paid little attention to the threat of termites.

"I see new buildings are already using lightweight steel," he said.

5. Make Home Repairs

Haykal also learned a lot from this incident to maintain the structure of his own house. Haykal's house, which was built five years ago, fully utilizes lightweight steel and iron in some parts. He ensures that there are no termite issues in his house thanks to the different building materials compared to his parents' house.

Currently, the efforts being made are to repair the parts of the house that have suffered the most damage. Haykal and his family chose to renovate rather than completely rebuild the house. According to Haykal, an important lesson from this incident is the importance of regular home maintenance, especially to prevent similar issues from occurring in the future.

"I also have to learn how to keep using wood if I really want to, so that termites won't like it. I already checked earlier, but it really needs to be checked periodically, it can't just be checked when an incident occurs. Because termites won't show themselves," he concluded.
