Apparently, there are many stories before Meli Nuryani or Melly Lee became known as a dangdut singer after winning the Indonesian Dangdut League 2020. One of them is that Melly was initially not allowed by her father to become a dangdut singer. What is the full story?
This is because her father, who is a Quran teacher, wanted Melly, his daughter, to continue her studies at an Islamic boarding school.
However, at that time, Melly herself refused her father's wishes, not because she didn't want to learn at the boarding school, but because she didn't want to be far from her mother.
"So my father is still a Quran teacher until now, so I learned religion from him. When my father found out that I sing dangdut, he didn't like it because he wanted me to enter a pesantren," said Melly Lee when met at KapanLagi Youniverse, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (17/5) afternoon.
"I don't want to because I don't want to be far from my mother, not because I don't want to gain knowledge. Well, if my father doesn't want it, then I don't have to be a dangdut singer," she continued.
Melly also explained the reason why her father forbids her to become a dangdut singer. However, her father gave her a challenge that if she wants to become a dangdut singer, Melly must be able to follow in the footsteps of Lesti Kejora's career.
"Don't be a dangdut singer if it's just like that. But if it's like Lesti, it's okay, it's up to my father, my father was angry at first," she said.
After that, Melly finally proved to her father after she was declared passed the audition for LIDA 2020.
"Finally, I reached the point where I auditioned and passed, and then I got support until now," she said. Recently, Melly has just released a single titled 'Matamu' a few days ago.
