Denny Caknan Admits He Will Never Replace Didi Kempot, But Is Ready to Continue His Dreams

As a musician and songwriter, the owner of the name Deni Setiawan will continue to create without having to bear the title of his senior, The GodFather of Brokenheart.

"If it's about replacing, then no, but if it's about continuing, I'm ready," said Denny Caknan after performing at the Pekan Kebudayaan Daerah Kota Malang 2020 event at Taman Krida Budaya Jawa Timur, Jalan Soekarno-Hatta Kota Malang, on Thursday (1/10).

Denny emphasized that Javanese music, which has become increasingly popular, should continue to develop and compete among other genres. Although Didi Kempot has passed away, other artists should continue his noble aspirations.

"Keep going, let's go," he said with a smile.

1. Almost Stopped

Denny performed at the Malang City Regional Cultural Week (PKD) 2020 event, which was broadcast virtually from the East Java Cultural Creative Park in Malang.

Denny admitted that during the Covid-19 pandemic, the world of stage performances he was involved in almost completely stopped. All concerts that had been scheduled far in advance were canceled.

"All concerts were canceled, because the situation is like this," he said.

Denny performed with the East Java comedy group, Guyon Maton, led by Cak Percil and friends. Their performance was without an audience, except for limited invitations with the implementation of health protocols.

Denny's performance started with the song Medhot Janji followed by the song Sugeng Dalu. The event was lively, full of jokes, and dangdut dance moves on stage.

During Denny's performance, Yudhi Prata, a singer from Malang, dueted with Aira to perform the song Sak Celupan. Shortly after, Denny Caknan returned to perform a song previously popularized by Didi Kempot, Pamer Bojo.

As a closing act, the singer from Ngawi performed his currently popular song, Los Dol.

Prior to this, Denny also provided training material at the event initiated by the Malang City Education and Culture Office. The creator of Kartonyono Medhot Janji invited artists to continue creating, even in the midst of a pandemic.
