Five Years of Career in Indonesia, Jirayut Reveals Not Much Difference in Fasting in Jakarta and Thailand

Kapanlagi.com - It has been five years since dangdut singer Jirayut fasted in Jakarta. As someone who comes from Thailand, it turns out that there are not many differences between fasting in Indonesia and in his hometown.

"I have been fasting in Indonesia for five years. As for the differences, they are not too far apart because my area is still a Malay area," said Jirayut, met in the Mampang area, South Jakarta, on Friday (5/4/2024).

"Everything for breaking the fast, ngabuburit, sahur, they also have it there. It's just that in Indonesia, there are children who wake you up for sahur, I haven't seen that in Thailand," he added.

During fasting, Jirayut apparently has a simple menu that must be eaten as soon as the Maghrib call to prayer sounds. When in Indonesia, he chooses dates, while in Thailand, kaeng khiao wan is his favorite.

"One thing for sure, I must have dates. Dates first, drink, then rice. In Thailand, there's kengsom. Kengsom is a sweet and sour fish dish. And then kaeng khiao wan. That's the most favorite. It feels incomplete without it," explained the 23-year-old man.

Having fasted for five years in Jakarta, Jirayut admitted that he has never broken his fast even while working. He apparently has tips and tricks to resist the temptation of breaking the fast.

"No, I haven't experienced that (breaking the fast). Just enjoy it until iftar. Don't think 'Oh, I'm hungry, I want to eat', don't. If we think we're hungry, then we'll feel hungry. Just stay focused, be happy, laugh, that can help," added Jirayut.
