Guyon Waton Has Not Been Fully Paid, Crew Hit by Bottle During Lantern Festival Riot

Kapanlagi.com - The Lantern Festival held in Tangerang recently ended in chaos after the audience started a fire. Guyon Waton, one of the scheduled performers, decided not to perform because the organizers had not fully paid them.

Guyon Waton's manager, Alwi, explained that until one day before the event, the administration for their performance had not been settled by the organizers.

“Until the day before, Guyon Waton's administration had not been settled,” said Alwi when contacted by reporters via text message on Tuesday (25/6/2024).

It turns out that it's not just Guyon Waton, other bands like NDX AKA have also not received full payment from the organizers.

“It turns out that it's not only us who have not been paid, our brothers from NDX AKA have also not been fully paid. And the sound system and LED vendors have also not been fully paid until noon when we received confirmation,” said Alwi.

1. Tense Situation

Alwi revealed that the situation grew more tense when Guyon Waton's crew went on stage to take their equipment and were pelted with bottles by the audience who mistook them for the organizers.

“And when we went on stage to take out Guyon Waton and NDX's instruments, we were hit with bottles and accused of being the organizers. Eventually, the audience became uncontrollable. Almost all of Guyon Waton's crew members were hit by objects thrown by the audience,” said Alwi.

2. Still Salvageable

Nevertheless, Alwi is grateful that Guyon Waton's musical instruments could still be saved.

“Alhamdulillah, our musical instruments were still salvageable,” concluded Alwi.

Due to the absence of scheduled performers such as NDX AKA and Guyon Waton, the audience became angry and damaged and burned vendor equipment, including sound systems, stages, and video screens.
