Kapanlagi.com - Lesti Kejora has become one of the most popular female dangdut singers in Indonesia. The mother of three, who won D'Academy in 2014, has been in the industry for over a decade, and is now trusted as a judge on Dangdut Academy 8.
One reason for Lesti Kejora's long-lasting career is her interest in music that has grown since childhood. She started singing from stage to stage at the age of 5.
"At the age of 5, I was already brave enough to perform. Because at that age, if I’m not mistaken, I was in kindergarten, filling events from stage to stage during the 17th of August celebrations and grade promotions. The support from my parents was also very significant," said Lesti in an exclusive interview with KapanLagi.com.
Lesti recounts her bravery in performing at a young age. When she was still in kindergarten, she had already participated in various events such as the 17th of August celebrations and class promotion moments. This activity gave her experience performing in front of the public from an early age.
Support from her parents was one of the early pillars of her journey. At that time, opportunities to perform often came from her surroundings, and Lesti responded by performing repeatedly on different stages.
Her habit of performing at the age of 5 made her familiar with the preparation process and stage atmosphere since childhood. That years-long experience continued until she became widely known through a national dangdut competition.
Not only does she enjoy singing, but Lesti emphasizes that she has a clear mission from the start. She wants to be a singer whose work is present for the public, not just singing aimlessly.
"I don't want to just be a singer, I want to be a singer who doesn't just sing for herself, or sing this song and that's it, finished," she said.
She continued her vision about the quality of herself and the work she wants to build. "But I want to be a singer whose (work) can be enjoyed by all circles, I want to be a singer with a good attitude, a great singer. So that people can see my abilities, see my potential in singing," added the 27-year-old singer.
That desire is what drove Lesti to audition for the first season of Dangdut Academy. That event became the door that brought her to a bigger stage and a wider audience.
The decision to participate in a major competition is not made lightly. Lesti emphasizes the importance of learning and improving professionalism as a singer.
"Essentially, I really want to keep learning to become a professional singer. That's why at that time I decided to ask for permission from my parents, I really wanted to join Dangdut Academy. Especially since this is the first major competition that I am participating in," Lesti concluded.
With her parents' blessing, she officially auditioned for Dangdut Academy. From that step, Lesti consistently performed until she finally won the championship title in 2014.
After the competition, her career continued for more than a decade. On the other hand, her role now as a judge for Dangdut Academy 8 is part of the musical journey she has built since childhood.
