Kapanlagi.com - Singer Lesti Kejora appeared as a witness in the judicial review of Copyright Law Number 28 of 2014 at the Constitutional Court (MK) on Tuesday (22/7/2025). Lesti came representing the petitioners, namely Vibrasi Suara Indonesia (VISI), to express her concerns as a performer.
In her testimony, Rizky Billar's wife explained how the articles in the law are still confusing. Lesti also admitted that singers like herself could suddenly face legal issues without clear protection.
"I am still left hanging as a reporter and it has a negative impact on me," said Lesti Kejora before the panel of judges at the MK, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (22/7/2025).

Lesti then explained that as a professional singer, she only performs based on requests from others. According to her, the songs performed are usually chosen by the client or the event organizer.
"As a professional singer, I am often invited to various events. In practice, the songs I sing are based on the requests of the client or event organizer," Lesti explained.

In fact, Lesti added that sudden changes in songs often occur when they are already at the location. This shows that she does not always have full control over the song list.
"In fact, it is not uncommon for the song list to be changed spontaneously on site," she said.

Lesti feels that this issue has become like a time bomb that could explode at any moment. She never expected that just for singing, she would have to face a legal notice and a police report from the songwriter.
"As a professional singer, I only provide services to perform," said Lesti.

Regarding the report from Yoni Dores to the Metro Jaya Police, Lesti admitted she was very surprised. She feels that her activities have been disturbed and is worried that if cases like this continue, it will cause unrest among other singers.
"The legal notice I received accompanied by a criminal report (from Yoni Dores) is a clear indication of the confusion of norms from the songwriter and the performers," she said.

According to Lesti, this condition shows that legal protection for singers is still very weak. She regrets that singers can be blamed just for performing popular songs.
"This shows the weakness of protection for me as a singer. If singers as performers can be blamed for singing popular songs, it can create a bad image," emphasized Lesti.

Furthermore, Lesti assesses that legal threats can be made unilaterally without a fair process. This certainly has the potential to damage the good name of the singing profession as a whole.
"Criminal threats can be made unilaterally by the creators," she concluded.

In front of the Constitutional Court judge, Lesti Kejora revealed the chronology of events that led her to deal with legal issues related to copyright. The mother of two detailed how a performance at a wedding brought her to criminal threats.
As is known, Lesti Kejora was reported by Yoni Dores for alleged copyright infringement. Yoni believes Lesti sang and uploaded her original songs on social media without permission, including on the YouTube platform.
