Soimah Optimistic D'Academy 8 Will Produce New Dangdut Stars

The talent search program D'Academy 8 has officially entered the Final Audition phase, which started airing on Monday (29/6/2026). Entering its eighth season, this flagship dangdut event from Indosiar is once again presenting a lineup of young talents from various regions in Indonesia. One of the judges, Soimah Pancawati, admitted to having some concerns before the audition process began.

These concerns arose after witnessing the great success of D'Academy 7, which managed to produce many young dangdut singers and became the number one talent search program in Indonesia. Soimah questioned whether the latest season could find participants with the same quality, or even better than before.

However, those doubts gradually faded after she became directly involved in the audition process of D'Academy 8. According to the woman from Pati, Central Java, the quality of this year's participants has once again made her optimistic that Indosiar will produce a new generation of dangdut stars.

"Recently, we have seen that the DA7 finale was truly extraordinary. At the end of DA7, I wondered if there would be a DA8. If there is, could it be like DA7? Especially in finding talent from the regions like in DA7. There are so many questions and fears because I feel a sense of responsibility. But during the auditions yesterday, thank God, that optimism was revived. We found extraordinary students for DA8. We are very optimistic that Indosiar will produce stars again," said Soimah at a press conference at the SCTV Tower, Senayan, Monday (29/6).

For Soimah, a judge's duty is not just to provide assessments when participants perform on stage. She actually wants to explore the other potentials that the participants have so that they can survive in the entertainment industry after the competition ends.

Therefore, the 45-year-old woman admitted that she does not have a special strategy in facing the latest season. She prefers to follow the development of each participant's character before providing guidance that suits their individual abilities.

"So the preparation is actually that I am not preparing for anything. Instead, we explore and dig into what we want. What’s important is our sensitivity as participants. After the competition is over, it can become true entertainment. What is clear is that we will prepare, if I am physically available. So I can accompany the participants every day," he stated.

In addition to vocal quality, Soimah also assesses that the development of the music industry requires dangdut singers to adapt to the changing times. According to her, dangdut is no longer enjoyed only by certain groups, but has also successfully attracted the attention of the younger generation.

However, Soimah emphasizes that this development should not erase the identity of dangdut music, which has become part of Indonesian culture. In fact, innovation is necessary so that dangdut remains relevant without abandoning its musical roots.

"The development of music is truly remarkable. We must keep up with the times, especially now that dangdut is being enjoyed, and we don't want to be left behind. We need to upgrade so that dangdut can be enjoyed by today's children without losing the essence of classic dangdut. Perhaps there will be other advancements in dangdut," concluded Soimah.

With the optimism of the judges and the quality of the participants who successfully passed from more than 9,500 registrants, D'Academy 8 is expected to once again produce talented dangdut singers who are not only successful on stage but also capable of developing as entertainers in the domestic entertainment industry.
