Sridevi's Struggle That Could Be an Inspiration for DA 8 Audition Participants

Sridevi, the champion of D'Academy 6, reminisces about the early days of her career filled with struggles. Since the age of 8, the girl from Prabumulih, South Sumatra, has performed from stage to stage in her village, even singing for free at times.

All of this was done with pure love for the dangdut music that raised her. KLovers, here is a portrait of Sridevi's struggle that might also inspire the participants of D'Academy 8 who are currently fighting in the audition phase.

Since childhood, Sridevi has fallen in love with the stage. From contributing her singing at people's celebrations to being paid Rp300 thousand for one album of songs, she has done it all sincerely.

"I started singing at the age of 8. Since I was little, I've often participated in competitions, singing anywhere. I was just that crazy about singing," Sridevi said while laughing during a KapanLagi Show.

She even admitted to having asked her mother to stop at a foreigner's event just to contribute a song. "I said, Mom, can I sing there? Even though I wasn't invited," she recalled with a small laugh.

Her mother was initially embarrassed and forbade her. "My mom said, don't, it's embarrassing. That's not our event," said Sridevi. But her enthusiasm for singing never waned.

From village stages to city stages, Sridevi grew up with the same spirit. "Back then, village stages were the most exciting. Even though it could be noisy sometimes, the atmosphere was nostalgic," she said.

"There are times when I sing far away, but I don't get paid. Sometimes I only get 200 thousand, at most 300 thousand, even though I sing a lot. Back then, 300 thousand was already a lot, I was grateful and just happy to be able to sing, to entertain people," she revealed again.

Her love for dangdut comes from the environment where she grew up. Sridevi grew up in the hometown of Lady Rara, idolizing Lesti, and her parents are fans of Rhoma Irama.

"I have been listening to dangdut since I was little, because my village is very close to Ka Rara Lida, and I am very inspired by Ka Lesti. My parents are also big fans of Rhoma Irama. So since I was little, I have developed a love for dangdut," Sridevi said proudly.
