Last December 2020, Ellen Page, known for her role in the movie JUNO, announced her new identity as a trans, namely Elliot Page. After introducing herself as Elliot, the star of Netflix's superhero series THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY has been actively campaigning for the rights of the trans community, which has been experiencing injustice. Elliot Page's announcement of his new identity received two contrasting reactions from the public. On one hand, Page received warm support for his courage to be himself.
On the other hand, Page certainly faced harsh criticism from some parties. As known, the existence of the trans community has not been accepted by some people.
These reactions were apparently predicted by Page himself. This was revealed by Elliot in an interview where his new appearance adorned the cover of TIME magazine.
"What I anticipated was a lot of support and love as well as a large amount of hatred and transphobia. Basically, that's what happened," he said.
However, Page admitted that he didn't expect his announcement with a new identity to become a big news in various media outlets around the world.
Currently, Page's announcement has made them the most well-known trans person in the world. On the day of their announcement, Elliot Page became a trending topic on Twitter in over 20 countries.
As a well-known actor, Page has been increasingly vocal about their campaign for the rights of the trans community. This includes young trans individuals who often become victims of attacks.
Since changing their identity to Elliot, Page has felt more at peace in their daily life. This is different from before when Page admitted to often feeling anxious.
"I imagined that there would be a difference when I started to truly embody who I really am and be in the body that I desire," they said.
Recently, the increasingly handsome Page showed a relaxed smile while lounging by the pool wearing shorts and bare-chested, showing off his abs.
