According to Reuters, the crew consisted of 6 women, including Katy Perry. They boarded the New Shepard rocket from Texas at 9:31 ET (1331 GMT). They soared to the edge of space and returned to Earth safely.
The entire journey lasted for 11 minutes. Katy looked happy when she successfully completed the mission. She exited the rocket holding up an Aster flower and then kissed the earth.
It was observed that, besides Katy, there was also Laura Sanchez, who is Jeff Bezos's fiancée, in the mission crew. Jeff Bezos is the founder of Blue Origin, a commercial spaceflight company.
“The earth is so calm but also very alive. We are all in this together, and some are connected. It makes me want to hug everyone,” said Laura Sanchez in an interview. Laura also mentioned that she indeed had to return to earth safely because she would be marrying Jeff in Venice this summer.
"This is about surrendering to the unknown, it’s about trust, and this whole journey is more than just going to space," added Katy Perry.
Quoted from her Instagram, Katy Perry admitted that this experience feels like a dream come true. "I have dreamed of going to space for 15 years, and finally tomorrow that dream will become a reality," she wrote.
"I feel very honored to be part of the first all-female spaceflight crew," Katy continued.
