THE CUPHEAD SHOW! is a collaboration between a streaming platform, video game studio Studio MDHR, and King Features Syndicate, which made a licensing deal for characters such as Popeye, Beetle Bailey, and Betty Boop owned by Fleischer Studios themselves.
THE CUPHEAD SHOW! will not follow the story of the game. Quoted from Netflix, this series is described as a "character-driven comedy series" following Cuphead and his brother Mugman on a carnival-themed adventure through the Inkwell Isles. Their journey will bring them face to face with The Devil himself.
In addition to showcasing incredible animation, the THE CUPHEAD SHOW! teaser also introduces the main antagonist character, King Dice. King Dice is the right-hand man of the devil played by Wayne Brady. Previously, Brady has voiced characters in THE LOUD HOUSE, PHINEAS AND FERB: THE MOVIE, and AMERICAN DAD!
Other voice cast includes Tru Valentino as Cuphead, Frank Todaro as Mugman, Joe Hanna as Elder Kettle, Luke Millington-Drake as Devil, and Grey Griffin as Ms. Chalice.
The game creators, Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, serve as executive producers in this series along with experienced animation producer Dave Wasson from MICKEY MOUSE SHORTS. The series will also be directed by Adam Paloian, who previously worked on SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, and Clay Morrow, who previously worked on MICKEY MOUSE SHORTS.
After a long wait, THE CUPHEAD SHOW! began streaming on Netflix on February 18, 2022, with each episode lasting 12 minutes. THE CUPHEAD SHOW! will have a total of 12 episodes.
In addition to the Netflix series, CUPHEAD will also be available as a children's book planned for release on May 3, 2022, titled "WELCOME TO INKWELL ISLES!"
