Portrait of Prince Philip's Youth, Handsome and Brave - Willing to Give Up the Prince of Greece and Denmark Title for Elizabeth

Prince Philip was born in Greece. His father was Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark. While his mother was Princess Alice of England who still has the blood of Queen Victoria.

The war forced Philip's family to be expelled from Greece. The British Navy saved him and brought Philip with a box of fruit. Together with his family, he moved to Paris.

In 1928, Philip was sent to Gordonstoun School in Scotland. He completed his basic education here and after graduating, he joined the British Navy.

Philip's youth was spent with the Navy and he was the best cadet in his class. His career was very brilliant, he became one of the youngest lieutenants at the age of 21.

Meeting with Elizabeth in 1939. 13-year-old Lilibet fell in love with Philip and they exchanged letters since then.

In 1946, Philip expressed his seriousness in his relationship with Elizabeth to King George VI. He relinquished his status as Prince of Greece and Denmark to become a British citizen.

Philip also relinquished his former last name and changed it to Mountbatten, which is the English version of his mother's last name, Battenberg. He then married Elizabeth in 1947.

Before the marriage with Elizabeth took place, King George VI bestowed the title Duke of Edinburgh upon Philip.

In 1957, Queen Elizabeth bestowed the title of Prince upon Philip. His position was right behind the Queen, except in the British Parliament.

Throughout his life, Philip was a very loyal companion to the Queen. Now Philip has passed away, at the age of 99 years and 10 months. Two months before his 100th birthday.
