The buzz around Shawn Mendes being caught joining Friday prayers at New York University (NYU). Not alone, the singer of the popular songs "Senorita" and "Stitches" was accompanied by another Canadian singer named Mustafa the Poet.
His presence at the Friday prayer on January 16, 2025, led many to speculate whether he had converted to Islam, as the singer born on August 8, 1998, is known to have practiced another religion.
He was also seen sitting and listening to the sermon until the Friday prayer was over. He appeared calm among the male congregation during the sermon.
The man, who was wearing a black t-shirt at that time, smiled at the camera and did not seem to feel awkward that this would cause a stir in public.

The X account wrote, “No, but Shawn was really listening to the Friday sermon and paying attention until it was over as if he was truly participating in the Friday prayer. You don’t know how meaningful that is, masyaAllah. Allahumma baarik.”
Shawn Mendes' actions have received much praise as well as confusion because he previously admitted to not being comfortable regarding his sexuality.
