He stated that the decision was made due to the reduction of subplots that did not fit into the main storyline.
In an interview with People, Kosinski explained that the editing process required them to trim two to three supporting stories, including those involving Ashley's character. Nevertheless, the director of TOP GUN: MAVERICK praised Ashley's talent and hopes to collaborate again in the future. In the final version of the film, Ashley only appears briefly without dialogue.
Simone Ashley herself has not made an official statement regarding the trimming of her role. However, in a previous interview with Elle, she described the experience of filming as something 'crazy' and remains grateful to have been part of such a large-scale project like F1. The film is set to be released in theaters on June 27.
The F1 film is one of Hollywood's ambitious projects this year. Directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Ehren Kruger, the film tells the story of Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a legendary Formula One driver who returns to the track after a fatal accident and is forced to retire. Ashley described the experience as something that she 'will not experience again' and feels fortunate to be in such a large production environment. Even though she did not have a full appearance, her involvement remains a part of her rising career journey after the success of the series BRIDGERTON.
