After Sparking Controversy, Horror Film 'KIBLAT' Changes Title to 'THAGHUT' - Producer Reveals No Reshoots

Kapanlagi.com - Around March, the production house Leo Pictures released the trailer and official poster for the horror film titled KIBLAT. However, just a few hours after being circulated across platforms, the promotional materials were withdrawn. The withdrawal was related to protests from netizens, religious leaders, and fellow filmmakers who felt that the trailer and poster were playing with the act of prayer.

Agung Saputra, as the producer, along with director Bobby Prasetyo and screenwriter Lele Laila, eventually visited the Indonesian Ulema Council for clarification. It was ultimately agreed to change the title and revise the trailer materials so that the film would not be considered disrespectful to religion.

1. Title Change to 'THAGHUT'

Four months have passed since the controversy occurred, the film KIBLAT has transformed into THAGHUT. The choice of the latest title is considered appropriate as it reflects the issues presented by this film directed by Bobby Prasetyo.

"THAGHUT can be said to be polytheistic, not believing in God. The team chose that title because it must align with the story. The team discussed with many people, not just randomly searching," said Agung Saputra when met at Plaza Indonesia, Thamrin area, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (24/7/2024).

2. No Reshoots

From the latest trailer released, THAGHUT has removed scenes depicting prayer movements. When asked if reshoots were conducted, Agung Saputra stated that they did not redo the shooting process.

"Honestly, we didn’t have any reshoots. Just make sure to watch the film later," asserted Agung Saputra.

THAGHUT is set to premiere in all cinemas in Indonesia starting August 29, 2024. This horror film stars Yasmin Napper, Arbani Yasiz, Hana Saraswati, Ria Ricis, and many other famous names.
