Ahead of National Film Day 2022, PPHUI Foundation and Filmmaking Organization Hold a Series of Exciting Activities

Kapanlagi.com - Since 1950, March 30th has been designated as National Film Day (HFN). And for this year, HFN 2022 will carry the theme 'Through the Commemoration of National Film Day, We Want to Make Indonesian Films a Cultural Barrier' with a series of film activities.

Unlike previous years, HFN 2022 is held by the film organization based in the Usmar Ismail Film Center Building by forming a joint committee, carrying out a series of activities for 3 days, from March 28 to 30, 2022.

The Joint Activity or joint committee involving all film organizations based in PPHUI in commemorating National Film Day is held for the first time. Then it will be maintained for HFN activities in the following years. This was conveyed by the chairman of the HFN 2022 organizer, H. Sonny Pudjisasono at a press conference at the PPHUI Building, Monday (3/28/2022).

"We deliberately knit all existing film organizations, so that this film center building is truly the center of all national film activities, or as the epicenter of film activities in Indonesia," said Sonny.

1. Make PPHUI Building a Cultural Barrier

Various film organizations, both based in PPHUI Building (PPHUI Foundation, PPFI, PWI Film and Music Section, Parfi, Sinematek, Senaki, KFT), as well as outside PPHUI Building (LSF and PFN), all agree to make PPHUI Building a cultural barrier for National Film.

According to Sonny, various things influence the development of national film, combined with the big G20 event where Indonesia is the host. Like it or not, Indonesia will become a place for all cultures from G20 member countries.

"If we don't filter, or at least there is no comparison, then our cultural identity will fade and disappear. Therefore, I want to make the Film Building maintain that dignity. This is in line with what we have been fighting for 3 years to confer the title of Father of Indonesian Film, Usmar Ismail, as a national hero in 2021.
Completing the hero title, the HFN committee also initiated the construction of the National Film Day Memorial Site, with the laying of the first stone ceremony in the PPHUI Building yard on March 30, 2022 at 1:00 PM," explained Sonny.

2. The Meaning Behind The Establishment of National Film Day Website

The construction of the website is intended as a reminder for the younger generation, young filmmakers, and millennials, not to lose their identity that they are a continuation of what the previous filmmakers have done.

"This monument is to remind us that National Film Day, taken from the history of cinema, namely the first day of shooting the film Darah dan Doa on Jalan Braga in 1950. Incidentally, the struggle to make this day a film day was initiated from this Film Building on March 30, 1950," added Sonny.

"Especially now with the digitalization changes, so as not to lose the meaning or break the history of cinema itself," he continued.

3. Various Activities of HFN 2022

For 3 days, HFN 2022 will be filled with a series of activities, including film discussions, film appreciation, film screenings, and many more. Sonny gave an example that on March 28, 2022, there will be a screening of the film Enam Jam di Djogja directed by Usmar Ismail in 1951.

"At that time, there was no political intervention from any party," said Sonny, who wanted the PPHUI Building to be a place for film history archives.

According to Sonny, the PPHUI Building is the only film history site still standing and managed by an independent private foundation, the Film Center Foundation, along with the film community.

"As the head of the Film Center Foundation, I want to make this Film Building a cultural fence for cinema. I want to preserve Indonesian cinema in the midst of cultural infiltration from outside," he concluded.
