Choosing a Female Director to Lead 'SURGA YANG TAK DIRINDUKAN 3' with Polyandry Theme

Kapanlagi.com - Unlike SURGA YANG TAK DIRINDUKAN (2015) and SURGA YANG TAK DIRINDUKAN 2 (2017) which explore polygamy, the movie SURGA YANG TAK DIRINDUKAN 3 focuses on the theme of polyandry. That's why Hanung Bramantyo, who acts as co-producer, invites Pritagita Arianegara to sit in the director's chair.

According to Hanung, a female voice is needed for this third movie considering the theme it carries. Because if he forces himself to be the director, it would be driven by a male ego.

1. Women's Perspective

"This third film flips everything around. That's why I needed Prita to direct this film because it's a story about women facing what comes from the past. If I were the director, there would definitely be my male perspective in it, my male ego would appear. Because the female perspective has to come out here," said Hanung, met at MD Place, Setiabudi area, South Jakarta, Wednesday (17/3/2021).

2. Based on Religion

Given the freedom to speak up, Pritagita Arianegara injects voices to make her film more profound. But of course, without straying from religious teachings.

"Mas Hanung said it had to be a female director because there is a female voice that needs to be raised. This is an opportunity to show that women have a voice when there is something that is disobedient, associated with disobedience towards men or husbands. Here, they are given a space to speak under the foundation of religion," explained the bespectacled woman known as Prita.

3. Viewing from the Phenomenon

In recent times, Hanung Bramantyo sees a phenomenon where married men bringing other women to their homes is common. Meanwhile, if a wife brings a secret home, it is already considered sinful. However, if we examine it based on religion, there are heavier laws.

"If a man goes out of the house and comes back with a woman, it seems common. But when a woman goes out, she needs permission, if not, it is a sin, and bringing back a secret is a major sin. So, we discuss this in the film, which then makes the roles of Pras and Meirose different. We always see disobedient women, but we forget that men also have heavier laws when they do it to women," Hanung concluded.
