Director Awi Suryadi Clarifies Rumors About Extra Actors' Pay of Only 75 Thousand Rupiah in 'KKN DI DESA PENARI'

Kapanlagi.com - Amid the success of KKN DI DESA PENARI, which has become the best-selling Indonesian film of all time, there are unpleasant rumors circulating about the pay received by extra actors. One online media reported that a ghost actor in the ending scene was only paid 75,000 Rupiah.

Apparently, this has reached the director, Awi Suryadi. He did not know how much the actors were paid, but after asking the casting team, it was revealed that the pay was not that low.

"Regarding the actors' pay, as a director, I do not know how much Tissa Biani, Megantara, or the extras were paid. But I immediately confirmed with the casting department and they ensured that the amount paid was not that low," said Awi Suryadi during a Zoom session of the Indonesian Film Journalists Festival (FFWI), on Friday (20/5).

Based on the casting department's information, the budget issued by MD Pictures for extras is higher than what is circulating. However, when the amount received by the actors is different, it is suspected that it is because they have received a cut from the local agency they are working with.

"Because we are working with a local agency there, of course, there is a cut by the local agency. We do not know how much the cut is," added Awi Suryadi.

2. Regarding the Issue of Not Being Able to Remove Makeup

In addition to the issue of an honorarium of only IDR 75,000, the extras said they were not allowed to remove their scary makeup for 24 hours. Awi Suryadi clarified the issue once again.

"It is not true that they (extras) are not allowed to remove their makeup for 24 hours. Because I remember it was the last day of shooting, they were contacted at 10 am, and we finished shooting at 10 pm. So a total of 12 hours. It is impossible that they cannot remove their makeup for 24 hours," said the bespectacled director firmly.

3. Best-Selling Indonesian Film

On the twentieth screening day (May 19), KKN DI DESA PENARI officially became the best-selling film of all time. The film adaptation of a Twitter thread managed to sell seven million tickets.

This seven million figure surpassed the achievement of WARKOP DKI REBORN: JANGKRIK BOSS PART I. For five years, the film held the top position with a record of 6.8 million tickets sold.
