Kapanlagi.com - Netflix has announced the film PENYALIN CAHAYA that will be released on January 13, 2022. After winning 12 awards at the Indonesian Film Festival and receiving 17 nominations, PENYALIN CAHAYA can now be watched on the entertainment streaming service, Netflix. This film will also be the first film to be shown in the new year of 2022.
PENYALIN CAHAYA is the debut feature film by director Wregas Bhanuteja, who has received several awards. This film dominated the Indonesian Film Festival 2021 with 17 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, and Best Actress. The film also had the opportunity to be screened at the Busan International Film Festival 2021 and competed in the New Currents category.
PENYALIN CAHAYA stars a number of young and talented actors, including Shenina Cinnamon who plays the role of Sur. Sur's heartbreaking yet courageous journey will captivate audiences as she seeks the truth. The performance of actor Chicco Kurniawan as Sur's friend, Amin, is also attention-grabbing and earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the Indonesian Film Festival 2021. In addition, the film also features Lutesha, Jerome Kurnia, Dea Panendra, Giulio Parengkuan, Lukman Sardi, and Ruth Marini.

This film follows a young woman named Sur whose life changes after a drunk photo of her goes viral, causing her to lose her scholarship. With the help of Amin, her childhood friend who works as a photocopy officer on campus, Sur is determined to uncover the truth by hacking into her classmates' cell phones.
"This film addresses a heartbreaking social issue that is still prevalent around us. Penyalin Cahaya is an invitation to speak up and take a stand against injustice. We are delighted that this film has found its home on Netflix and hope it can be a source of strength for silenced voices worldwide," said Wregas.
Wregas became the first Indonesian director to receive an award at the Cannes Film Festival after his short film, Prenjak (In the Year of Monkey), won the Leica Cine Discovery Prize at the 55th Semaine de la Critique in 2016. The film also received the Citra Award for Best Short Film at the 2016 Indonesian Film Festival. Previously, Wregas was recognized as the youngest director to compete in the 2015 Berlin International Film Festival with his short film Lembusura (2015). Additionally, his short film Tak Ada Yang Gila di Kota Ini was named Best Short Film at the 2019 Indonesian Film Festival and competed in the Sundance Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, and Locarno Film Festival.
