Kapanlagi.com - MD Pictures will release a new horror film titled Pabrik Gula during Eid 2025. Before its release, the film's poster went viral on social media for featuring a scene considered inappropriate. Controversy arose until MD Pictures eventually replaced the poster with a more neutral version.
Manoj Punjabi, the film's producer and founder of MD Entertainment, revealed that the first poster was intentionally designed to attract public attention.
"It was just a strategy to attract the market. And it was only posted for social media," said Manoj Punjabi at a press conference at XXI Gandaria City, South Jakarta, Thursday (30/1/2025).
On the other hand, Erika Carlina, who plays Naning in this film, admitted that she was surprised when her name suddenly became a hot topic among netizens.
"Honestly, I was really surprised, I was shocked that suddenly so many people noticed me," said Erika Carlina.
Erika realized from the beginning that the poster was indeed made to attract attention. However, she was still shocked by the overwhelming public reaction.
"Because after filming, we went straight to a photoshoot. I already knew what the image was intended for, but it was shocking that it suddenly became so popular," she explained.
Despite causing controversy, Erika feels proud to be involved in the film directed by Awi Suryadi. She also sees the release during Eid as a great opportunity for her career.
"Especially since this film is released during Eid, it's a great opportunity for my career. So I have to take it," said Erika.
With the poster changes and significant public attention, Pabrik Gula is increasingly anticipated by Indonesian horror film lovers.
