Horror Film 'ALMARHUM' Premieres January 9, 2025, Reveals Mystical Terror Behind the Tuesday Kliwon Myth

ALMARHUM itself highlights the belief among the Javanese that Tuesday Kliwon is a day that brings misfortune, especially for families who have lost someone on that day. Their spirits are believed to struggle to reach the afterlife, wandering, and may even "invite" other family members to become sacrifices.

The film opens with the tragic death of Pak Mulwanto (Rukman Rosadi) on Tuesday Kliwon, which initiates a series of terrifying events for his family. Wisesa (Dimas Aditya), the eldest son who is a doctor, rejects traditional rituals to ward off disaster, while his mother, Rahmi (Nova Eliza), along with Nuri (Safira Ratu Sofya) and Yanda (Alzi Markers), his siblings, begin to experience strange occurrences that threaten their safety.

"In this modern era, many people are busy pursuing worldly degrees, whether professional or academic, to the point of forgetting to prepare for their eternal degree later as the deceased. This film invites the audience to reflect on the balance between worldly achievements and spiritual provisions," Oswin revealed.

3. The Experiences of the Actors

Dimas Aditya, who plays Wisesa, shares his experience during the filming of ALMARHUM. "The filming process of this movie was truly profound, not just technically but also emotionally. There were many scenes that required me to delve into emotions of loss and fear. Additionally, I learned a lot about Javanese traditions, especially the myth of Selasa Kliwon, which I previously only knew superficially. This was a challenging experience, but it was very enriching as an actor," said Dimas.

Ratu Sofya, who plays Nuri, also shared her extreme filming experience. "One of the most challenging scenes was when I had to be buried for 6 hours. The conditions were really terrifying, my body was shivering, my breath was short, and it felt unforgettable even after the shooting was over. All of that was to provide a real horror experience for you all. You absolutely must watch ALMARHUM," said Ratu.

In addition to Dimas and Ratu, ALMARHUM is also supported by a lineup of other talented actors, such as Alzi Markers, Nova Eliza, Rukman Rosadi, Rizky Hanggono, Meisya Amira, Gito Gilas, and Ruth Marini, who deliver stunning performances to bring the tension-filled story to life.
