Modified from the Mahabharata Epic, Superhero Movie 'SATRIA DEWA: GATOTKACA' Receives Historical Expertise

Kapanlagi.com - The original superhero film made by local filmmakers titled SATRIA DEWA: GATOTKACA is set to be released in theaters throughout Indonesia starting Thursday (9/6). The film's story, starring Rizky Nazar and Yasmin Napper, was developed from the Mahabharata epic.

Although it is a development, the process from scriptwriting to animation was monitored by several experts to avoid any protests.

"Young people might like it, but the older generation might say 'What is this?'. From there, we invited a team from the University of Indonesia because we were afraid of being attacked. We gained insights, we received guidance. Mas Hanung also went to UGM," said Celerina Judisari, the producer, in a press conference on Monday (6/6).

1. Using the Concept of Lineage

Based on input from two well-known universities in Indonesia, it was finally agreed that the characters in the film are descendants of the names in the Mahabharata epic. However, it still remains within the main source.

"After the meeting, the result is as flexible as this, it's safest to say it's a descendant. But in the umbrella of the story, those philosophies are still being carried," said Celerina Judisari.

"This lineage concept means that we fixate, what we believe in the puppetry is actually true," added Hanung Bramantyo, the director, at the same event.

2. Introducing to the Millennial Generation

SATRIA DEWA: GATOTKACA is the first film from the 'Satria Dewa Semesta' franchise produced by Satria Dewa Studios. Therefore, in this opening film, it introduces to the current generation who Pandawa and Kurawa are.

"In this first film, it's about the birth of Pandawa and Kurawa, that's what we establish to all our friends. Because for Pandawa and Kurawa, maybe for those who are the same age as me, they already know. But how about the millennial generation, my children? They don't know," explained Hanung Bramantyo.

3. Special Mission

Furthermore, Hanung Bramantyo wants the film SATRIA DEWA: GATOTKACA to attract many viewers. Because if it succeeds, it will arouse people's curiosity about history and make museum and wayang orang (human puppet) popular again.

"Look, the audience for wayang orang Mahabharata is very low, look at Taman Mini's wayang museum, it's empty of visitors. If SATRIA DEWA: GATOTKACA can succeed, for sure wayang orang and the museum will come back to life. We hope the film will work," Hanung said.
