MovieTalk 'UNCHARTED': Tom Holland's Transformation Into Treasure Hunter

Kapanlagi.com - Tom Holland is already closely associated with the character of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man that he portrays. Now he is ready to embody another iconic character, a treasure hunter named Nathan Drake aka Nate in the film UNCHARTED. 

This adaptation of the iconic video game tells the story of Nate's adventures in dangerous and exotic locations in search of priceless treasures. In the trailer, you can see Nate and Sully (Mark Wahlberg) traveling around the world and risking their lives on cargo planes and old boats. 

Going back to back playing two main characters who are equally agile, from NO WAY HOME to UNCHARTED, is certainly a challenge for Tom. He has to switch roles and transform his appearance to provide a different touch. 

KapanLagi had the opportunity to have a brief chat with him recently about the making of the film UNCHARTED. Let's find out more. 

Q: Hello Tom, nice to meet you again in a different film. I hope you're always well. Congratulations on your new film. 

Tom: Hi, thank you. 

Q: Thank you for taking the time to chat. First of all, what made you believe that Nathan Drake was a role you had to take on?

Tom: I've been a huge fan of the game for a long time. I have been playing it since the filming of SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING. I always thought that this game is very cinematic and the story is also very interesting and full of adventure. So for me, the process is more about delivering the story well. The character will follow naturally.

I myself didn't feel like Nathan until I finally wore the sandy brown Henley with its shoulder belt and cut my hair. It's really fun to be this character.

Q: Speaking about uncharted (unmapped), what new experience is unmapped in your mind and you experienced when starring in this movie?

Tom: It's interesting, you know before I became the main character in an action movie, I had a comfort zone, which is Spider-Man. Where I can hide myself. But in UNCHARTED, I don't have that comfort at all. This is a very open opportunity that if done wrong, could be wrong on a large scale.

I can say that I did it correctly. But I have to say that, right? :D I can't wait to see how the audience reacts. I hope, and I believe they will enjoy it.

Q: It's also interesting for us to see you sitting as an Executive Producer. What excitement have you encountered with this new position?

Tom: This is truly a great opportunity for me, especially since I see this industry as full of challenges. So this is a great opportunity for me to learn more about the business in it. I feel like I can contribute a lot of ideas here. I love my fellow producers, Alex (Gartner), Carter (Swan), and Ruben (Fleischer).

The biggest challenge is that they are already old while I am a 25-year-old representing the target audience for this film. So, I can provide a unique and youthful perspective on the production process. They welcomed me very well, and I am also a fan of their films. I am grateful to be part of this great team.

Q: One more thing, Nate and Sully are the life of this film. How do you and Mark strive to be believable as this duo?

Tom: This is truly a great honor. Mark Wahlberg is a legend in this business. The results of his work are always good. For me, who is still young, it is always fun to work with someone older and more experienced. Can see them and learn how they work.

Whether this movie is good or not depends on the interaction between Nathan and Sully. I can happily say that our chemistry on camera is not fake. It naturally comes from the both of us. It's very enjoyable and I hope to have the opportunity like this again. Anyway, Mark is the champion.

Q: Do you need practice to make your jokes?

Tom: Sometimes yes, sometimes no. In this movie, many surprising things happen. We do a lot of improvisation. Very enjoyable. It feels good to work together with him.
