'PARANOIA' Receives Four Nominations at FFI 2021, Mira Lesmana Believes Riri Riza Will Win the Citra Award

Kapanlagi.com - The Indonesian Film Festival 2021 has announced the list of nominations for the Citra Award. Among the competing titles, PARANOIA by Riri Riza has received four nominations in the categories of sound design, lead actress, director, and feature film.

Upon learning this fact, Riri expressed her joy as her name was chosen by the professional association members involved in the judging. She sees this award as a kind of bonus for her hard work.

"The most important thing is the enjoyable working experience, meeting cool people, most of whom are friends, and that's already a reward. And then to receive a bonus (nomination), thank you so much to the association for choosing me," Riri said in a virtual press conference on Monday (11/10/2021).

Mira Lesmana, as the producer, believes that Riri will bring home the Citra Award. Because during the filming of this drama thriller genre film, she saw her working partner enjoying it so much.

"We decided to explore a different genre. The fact that this new approach is appreciated and received nominations, I am extremely happy. I am very confident that Riri will win because I have seen how she enjoys working and exploring genres," added Mira on the same occasion.

1. Pandemic Gives Birth to Ideas

PARANOIA conducted the shooting process at the end of 2020 by implementing strict health protocols. Since the idea of the story was conceived, Mira Lesmana and Riri Riza arranged it so that not many actors and crew members were involved.

"We created a story where we can control the crew, control the number of locations, and most importantly, ensure the comfort of our actors. Even though there are limitations, the crew wears masks, but the actors cannot. After seven days of quarantine, we finally feel comfortable with each other," said Mira.

The idea for the film, starring Nirina Zubir, Nicholas Saputra, Lukman Sardi, and Caitlin North Lewis, emerged amidst unexplained fears during the pandemic. This condition was then used in the story.

"This pandemic is the driving force, the strongest motivation because our lives have changed, there are many things we don't understand, and it gives birth to fear, worry, and tension. That's what made us think briefly, this (story) approach can be done under strict conditions," added Riri.

PARANOIA tells the story of Dina, a mother with one child who decides to hide after finding out that her husband is released from prison. During her hiding, Dina's relationship with her child is disrupted by a mysterious man. This film will be released in theaters starting from November 11, 2021.
