Portraying a Man with Intellectual Disabilities in the Film 'MIRACLE IN CELL NO 7', Vino G Bastian Accompanied by 3 Psychologists

Kapanlagi.com - Vino G Bastian was chosen to portray a character of a father with intellectual disabilities and autism in the film MIRACLE IN CELL NO 7. In order to deepen his character, Vino observed someone who had experienced such condition.

"When doing research, I didn't rely on Google, but I directly observed someone who could be our role model. During the preparation, I followed and recorded that person, so that we could analyze it together," said Vino during a virtual conference session on Monday (11/5/2020).

1. Accompanied by Three Psychologists

Throughout the process from the beginning to the shooting, Vino G Bastian was accompanied by three psychologists who understood intellectual disabilities. So before acting, he consulted to get convincing gestures.

"My character is a person with intellectual disabilities accompanied by autism. There are three psychologists involved, every scene we create, we discuss whether it is possible or not. When the psychologist gives the green light, maybe for reasons like this, and not possible for reasons like this, then we enter the scene. We are very careful in choosing one gesture or activity. Because we are afraid that people who see it will ask questions. So this must be precise," explained the husband of actress Marsha Timothy.

2. Understand Dramatization

Hanung Bramantyo as the director admitted to being lucky to find the right psychologists. Because these three practitioners are also film lovers, so they are not rigid in giving directions.

"What needs to be emphasized is that these psychologists are also film viewers. So they understand the aspect of dramatization. They don't become rigid, they provide basic logic for us to work together," concluded Hanung in the same occasion.
