Release of Tension-Filled Family Film 'PARANOIA', Mira Lesmana and Riri Riza Inspired by the Covid-19 Pandemic

Kapanlagi.com - The Covid-19 pandemic period turned out to not only be a time of despair, but also a productive moment. Yes, it was during that time that Mira Lesmana and Riri Riza thought of making a film. Thus, PARANOIA was born, produced in the midst of the pandemic in November 2020.

The pandemic has evoked feelings of fear and anxiety in many people. As KLovers know, moments like this do not happen often. These emotions were then transformed into a film by Riri Riza and Mira Lesmana.

1. Fear and Anxiety

“The idea of making the film PARANOIA started during the early days of the pandemic. At that time, there were various emotions that we all felt, especially fear and anxiety. Riri and I then discussed how to channel all those feelings and emotions into a work of art. So, we designed a story with the thought that its production would be done during a pandemic, and thus PARANOIA was born,” said Mira Lesmana recently.

2. Premiering at BIFAN 2021

Created in a pandemic situation, strict health protocols were also implemented during the shooting. All the crew and cast of the film PARANOIA were quarantined, where no one was allowed to enter or leave the quarantine location.

Interestingly, PARANOIA premiered at the 25th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) 2021. BIFAN is an annual international film festival in South Korea dedicated to horror, thriller, mystery, fantasy, and science fiction lovers. For over two decades, BIFAN, known as one of the prestigious festivals for these genres, has produced popular, creative, and progressive programs.

3. First Drama Thriller Film

According to Riri Riza, the director, PARANOIA is the first drama thriller film he made. This film is very different from previous Miles Films' movies.

“PARANOIA is my first film in the drama thriller genre. It feels like the right time to tell a drama with tension as a response to the current situation. And I am very happy because this opportunity is also a stage for Miles Films to give birth to works with a new color, different from the films we made before,” said Riri Riza.

Several top actors and actresses also star in PARANOIA. There are Nirina Zubir, Nicholas Saputra, Lukman Sardi, and Caitlin North-Lewis. Wow, I can't wait to watch the movie. Let's look forward to it in your favorite cinema!
