Shooting in Times Square Until Blocked by Police, Asri Welas: I'm Not Angelina Jolie!

Playing the role of an Indonesian immigrant in New York gives Asri Welas an extraordinary experience in the series RATU RATU QUEENS. One of the most unforgettable moments for her was when she had to perform a scene in Times Square, one of the busiest and most iconic intersections in the world.

The shooting process at that location is not an easy matter. Asri explains that in order to take pictures, the area around them must be blocked off or temporarily closed to the public, a standard procedure in large cities like New York.

"Yes, that's true, but we also have to block when the four of us walk. So indeed, when shooting there on the street, we get scolded, so we really have to block," said Asri Welas when met in the Senayan area, Central Jakarta, Friday (12/9/2015).

For Asri Welas, that moment felt unreal. Acting as a simple immigrant woman in a costume far from glamorous in the spotlight of the world made her feel amazed yet humble. She never expected to have such a big opportunity.

"So indeed, our appearance as immigrant women has become something wow in the story, so it's not something glamorous or beautiful," she explained.

She expressed the peak of her feelings with a humorous sentence, comparing herself to top Hollywood stars.

"I'm not Angelina Jolie, in Times Square like this, is it really just me shooting here? Yes Sri, you are there. I arrived, OMG I've never experienced anything like this," said Asri Welas.

This experience made her and the other actors feel like international movie stars. Nirina Zubir expressed her amazement when she saw the New York police (NYPD) in person, complete with their cars and uniforms, securing the filming location, just like what she often sees in Hollywood movies.

"There we felt like wow in a foreign country, blocked off, with the NYPD that we see in movies, their cars, police uniforms, we felt like international artists," said Nirina.
