WHEN LOVE IS AT ITS PEAK (2009) tells the story of Abdullah Khairul Azzam, a smart young man from a village in Central Java who is 28 years old. Since childhood, Azzam has shown good behavior and excelled in school. Thanks to his efforts, he managed to obtain a scholarship to continue his studies at Al Azhar, Egypt.

After a year in Cairo, Azzam, who has achieved the title of Jayyid Jiddan in his studies, must face a bitter reality. His beloved father has passed away, and Azzam, as the eldest child, must bear the burden of helping the family. He starts selling tempeh and meatballs to meet daily needs, even though it affects his concentration in college. Nevertheless, Azzam remains determined to finish his studies and bring honor to his family.

One day, Azzam meets Eliana Pramesthi Alam, the daughter of the Indonesian Ambassador in Cairo, who is also an outstanding student. Azzam is attracted to her, but he is reminded by Mr. Ali, the driver of the Indonesian Embassy, that there is another girl who is more suitable for him, namely Anna Althafunnisa.

Anna is a smart student who also wears a hijab and comes from a family of pesantren clerics. Although Azzam had never met Anna, he felt compelled to propose to her.
