The Shelter Film Invites Audiences to Celebrate Life and Rediscover Lost Hope

However, when faced and lived through with friends, the struggle becomes lighter and brings new hope and meaning in living life. This is the story presented in the Shelter Film, which will be showing in Indonesian theaters starting August 27, 2026.

The Shelter Film is produced by SENARA, in collaboration with Mandela Pictures and Limelight Pictures. The film is directed by Dyan Sunu Prastowo, with the story idea by Celvin Jaya Hadi and the screenplay written by Raditya.

This film tells the story of Karla (Adhisty Zara), a runner, who must accept the reality that she has osteosarcoma, a malignant bone cancer. In the midst of this life-changing reality, Karla arrives at a shelter and is warmly welcomed by Mrs. Andin (Dewi Irawan), the head of the shelter, and gets to know the other residents, namely Luki (Devano), Toni (Ciccio Manassero), and Pika (Messi Gusti).

Karla and her new friends slowly build a friendship. Together with Mang Didu (Aming), the loyal caretaker of the shelter, they embark on a new journey, where dreams that were almost lost find a glimmer of hope again.

2. Messages Behind the Scenes from the Director and Cast

Director Dyan Sunu Prastowo revealed the meaning of time that has been widely discussed during the making of this film. "While making Rumah Singgah, we talked a lot about time. About how something we consider simple becomes so meaningful when we realize that time doesn’t always go as we hope. Now, when this film is finally ready to meet the audience, we also feel that the time is right to invite the public to come together to the cinema, not just to watch Rumah Singgah, but also to feel again how precious it is to be present for someone, to listen to them, and to give them the opportunity to keep dreaming," said Dyan.

Personal experiences were also felt by Devano, who plays Luki, especially through the song "Surat Hati" which is part of this film. "Being Luki made me learn to see many things from a different perspective. Even though in a difficult situation, Luki can still enjoy simple things and is always there for his friends. When 'Surat Hati' finally became part of the journey of Rumah Singgah, I felt that there were many things in this story that were increasingly close to what I felt during the shooting process. I hope the audience can also feel the warmth that we felt while making this film, and after watching it, they can appreciate time and the people who are always there for us even more," said Devano.

For SENARA as the production house, the journey of this film does not stop at the completion of the production process, but rather begins when its story finds the audience. SENARA's producer, Hans Andreas, emphasizes the importance of that meeting moment.
