Years later, Wanda and Pietro voluntarily underwent HYDRA's genetic experiments under the supervision of Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, using Loki's scepter. They were among the few subjects who survived. Wanda gained various extraordinary abilities, and together with Pietro, she used those powers to assist Ultron, who harbored similar hatred towards Tony Stark.
However, everything changed when Wanda realized Ultron's true plans. Realizing his mistake, he and Pietro turned against Ultron and joined the Avengers to stop greater destruction. This is where Wanda's journey as an Avenger began.
Wanda's powers, known as Scarlet Power, are still not fully mapped out. Because her source partly comes from the Mind Stone in Loki's scepter, Wanda possesses telekinesis, energy manipulation, and neuroelectric interfacing that allows her to read minds and create nightmares while awake. After turning against Ultron, Wanda fought alongside Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Iron Man. Hawkeye became a mentor figure who saw great potential in her. The loss of Pietro in the battle against Ultron became the deepest wound she felt.
Despite being engulfed in grief, Wanda moved forward as a fully-fledged Avenger. She joined a new team with Captain America, Black Widow, Falcon, War Machine, and Vision. Wanda and Vision's relationship developed into a strong and unique love story. In fact, Wanda once refused to destroy the Mind Stone on Vision's forehead even knowing that the fate of the universe depended on that decision.
Baron von Strucker's experiments gave Wanda the abilities of mental manipulation and telekinesis, while Pietro gained super speed. Both were initially held captive and slowly learned to control their new powers. When the Avengers attacked the HYDRA base in Sokovia, Wanda showcased her abilities by taking down Captain America and revealing Tony Stark's deepest nightmares.
Wanda then played a significant role in the conflict triggered by Ultron, including manipulating the Avengers and provoking Hulk's rampage. However, in Seoul, he finally saw Ultron's plan to annihilate almost all of humanity. Wanda freed Dr. Helen Cho, escaped with Pietro, and helped the Avengers fight Ultron until the end.
After being brought to the Avengers' headquarters, Wanda witnessed the birth of Vision and still felt wary of the new being. However, she and Pietro eventually returned to Sokovia to help the Avengers stop Ultron, marking Wanda Maximoff's final step towards her role as the Scarlet Witch and a true Avenger.

Although often forbidden by her father for engaging in 'boys' activities', Carol is even more motivated to prove her abilities. Every time she falls, she always gets back up and tries again, until fate leads her into the United States Air Force.
In the late 1980s, Carol officially joined the Air Force and formed a close friendship with fellow pilot, Maria 'Photon' Rambeau, and her daughter, Monica. With the motto 'Higher, Further, Faster', Carol and Maria shared dreams, laughter, and karaoke nights in between flight test missions. She served in Project Pegasus led by Dr. Wendy Lawson, a figure who believed in Carol's abilities even though women were not allowed to fly in combat missions at that time. When testing Lawson's super light-speed engine, their aircraft was shot down by a Kree ship and crashed in a fatal incident.
In a dying condition, Carol shot the aircraft's core reactor to prevent it from falling into Kree hands. The explosion nearly killed her, erased her memories, and instead implanted mysterious energy into her body. She was then taken to the planet Hala by Yon-Rogg, the Kree commander, and was saved with a Kree blood transfusion at the order of the Supreme Intelligence. Since then, Carol was trained to become a member of the elite Starforce and was given a new name, Vers, an emotionless warrior ready to become a weapon of the Kree Empire.
As a human-Kree hybrid, Vers possesses physical powers far beyond those of ordinary humans. She is faster, stronger, and much more resilient. The cosmic energy within her comes from the Tesseract that contains the Space Stone, giving her the ability to manipulate energy on a large scale. Initially, her powers were limited by the Photon Inhibitor, but when she fully became Captain Marvel, Carol was able to stop missile attacks, defeat former Starforce allies, and single-handedly push back Ronan's fleet.
Even after years of living as Vers, dreams of her past continued to haunt her. When the Starforce mission turned out to be a trap, she was captured by the Skrulls and her memories were probed by Talos. Vers managed to escape, fell to Earth, and dramatically landed in a Blockbuster Video. It was there that she met Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, who initially doubted the story of the Skrull invasion until they were directly attacked.
Carol's journey to discover her true identity brought her back to Project Pegasus, where she met Lawson's cat named Goose, and eventually visited Maria Rambeau's home. There, Carol's memories slowly returned. She realized that the Skrulls were actually refugees being hunted by the Kree, and Dr. Lawson is a Kree rebel who is trying to help them find a new home. The fact that Yon-Rogg was behind Lawson's accident and death makes Carol fully aware of her past.
In Lawson's space laboratory, Carol finally frees herself from the control of the Supreme Intelligence, fully embracing her powers, and defeats Starforce. Goose turns out to be a Flerken alien that safely stores the Tesseract. Carol, in a new costume that rejects her old identity as a Kree soldier, destroys Ronan's missile and forces him to retreat. She also defeats Yon-Rogg with a single cosmic blast before sending him back to Hala.
After that incident, Carol promises to help Talos and the Skrulls find a new planet. She leaves Earth again, but ensures that Nick Fury can contact her via a special pager in case of emergencies.
Years later, after surviving Thanos's snap, Captain Marvel receives an emergency signal from Fury. She finds the universe in disarray and half of all life gone. On Earth, he meets the remaining Avengers and helps save Tony Stark and Nebula by bringing the Guardians' ship back to the Avengers' headquarters. His arrival marks a new hope amidst the great sorrow enveloping the heroes.
