Complete List of Winners of the 2020 OSCAR, Accompanied by Criticism for Lack of Representation of Women and People of Color

Kapanlagi.com - The 2020 Oscars took place on Monday (10/2) in Indonesia time. The film awards event, organized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, has entered its 92nd year. And to kick off the event, Janelle Monae, Steve Martin, and Chris Rock immediately touched on the issue of the limited number of female or non-white nominees.

"There are many great directors nominated this year," said Rock.

"I don't know, Chris. I feel like there's something missing from this year's list," added Martin.

"Va***a?" Rock quipped, referring to the female genitalia. "YES, EXACTLY," they both agreed, and the audience responded with applause and laughter.

In addition, only two non-white actors were nominated out of twenty actors. There were no female directors nominated this year. As reported by CNBC, female representation and diversity of skin color were only seen in PARASITE (South Korea), which starred a non-white cast, and LITTLE WOMEN, which was dominated by female actors.

"We strongly believe that representation is meaningful, especially in animated films," said producer HAIR LOVE. The animated film tells the story of the beauty of a black girl's hair. This film won as the Best Short Animated Film. "Because through animation, we first enjoy films (when we were children) and from there we shape our lives and our perspective on the world," he added.

2. Oscars Also Felt Political

In addition to being touched upon by speeches or monologues about inclusion, the Oscars also felt political this year. Brad Pitt was the one who started it in his acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor in the film ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD. 

"They say I only have 45 seconds up here on this stage. That's 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week. I think Quentin [Tarantino] does a movie about it, and in the end, the adults do the right thing," said Brad Pitt.

John Bolton is a former National Security Adviser who wrote a manuscript about President Trump's statements. Trump's statements regarding aid to Ukraine could be strong evidence in Trump's impeachment trial. He is willing to testify in Trump's impeachment trial regarding this matter. However, it seems that this has not yet happened. 

Political content is nothing new at the Oscars. Statements about gender equality, rights for the LGBTQ+ community, and police violence against people of color are often delivered on the Oscar stage.
