[REVIEW] 'BIRDS OF PREY' - Harley Quinn's Story of Wanting Freedom After Breaking Up with Joker

It is told that Harley Quinn (played by Margot Robbie) broke up with Joker after a long relationship. Although they have broken up, Harley never admits it to anyone to protect herself. Because, clearly, no one would dare to approach her if she is still known as Mr. J's girlfriend.

However, one day, Harley daringly announces their breakup by blowing up the place where she and Joker first met. This announcement makes her chased by many people in Gotham. Eventually, the situation forces Harley to become the henchwoman of Roman Sionis alias Black Mask (played by Ewan McGregor). The man asks Harley to hunt down a little girl who has stolen his diamond.

Since the trailer and promotional material were released some time ago, we already know that the character Joker played by Jared Leto will not return. Instead, this film, written by Christina Hodson, introduces four female characters with different personalities and backgrounds.

These four individuals are Black Canary, Huntress, Renee Montoya, and Cassandra Cain, who accompany Harley Quinn in her fight against those who want them dead. So, is the film still exciting?

2. Margot Robbie's Captivating Acting!

The answer, of course, is yes. BIRDS OF PREY is an entertaining spectacle. Despite the absence of Joker, Harley Quinn, who wants to break free from heartbreak, successfully brings the spirit of women's emancipation in this film. Through the portrayal of five characters, this is evident.

The storytelling is done in a non-linear manner, even appearing random, guided by the captivating and comical narration of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Instead of confusion, this structure actually makes the film easier to understand because forcing a linear narrative would make it boring.

Although adapted from a comic, this film can only be watched by viewers aged 17 and above. This is because the violent scenes depicted are quite explicit and disturbing, although still aesthetically appealing.
