Director Predicts Story of 'AQUAMEN 3' Based on the Ending of 'AQUAMEN AND THE LOST KINGDOM'

The ending of the movie AQUAMEN AND THE LOST KINGDOM provides a hint about the possibility of the film continuing to a third sequel. This was directly revealed by director James Wan during the trailer screening event of AQUAMEN AND THE LOST KINGDOM, as quoted from Screen Rant.

Wan stated that "Jason Momoa's journey as Aquaman still has a lot of potential." He also confirmed that the ending of AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM will lead to a bigger development.

2. AQUAMEN 3 will Develop Characters

James Wan conveyed that AQUAMEN AND THE LOST KINGDOM showcases many elements that can be further developed in the third sequel. He revealed that the characters in the second sequel still have great potential to be developed in the third sequel.

In his interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wan said, "What I like between the first and second sequel is that the audience can see Arthur's development. If there is a third sequel, there should be further development of the characters in the story. Developing characters in the film is the main focus of the next AQUAMEN film."

3. Possible Storyline for AQUAMEN 3

There are several possible storylines that can be developed in AQUAMEN 3. Based on the leaked information from the trailer AQUAMEN AND THE LOST KINGDOM, there will be important moments from the comic that will be adapted in AQUAMEN 3 after seeing Black Manta chasing the Arthur Curry Family. There might be a scene where Black Manta threatens the life of Aquamen's son, similar to what happened in the comic. 

The director James Wan also mentioned that the ending of AQUAMEN AND THE LOST KINGDOM will be the beginning of something big. Additionally, he previously stated that the focus will be on character development in the third sequel. Therefore, it is possible that in the third sequel, Arthur Curry will rise again as a better hero after facing a great loss.

4. Joining Other Universes

AQUAMEN AND THE LOST KINGDOM is the conclusion of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) that has been running since 2013. The new leaders of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, will introduce a new DC film universe called DC Universe (DCU). DCU will be introduced through the animated series CREATURE COMMANDOS which will be released in 2024.

The journey of the King of Atlantis is likely to be produced under DCU, so it is possible that Arthur Curry will be visualized differently from DCEU. Therefore, AQUAMEN 3 will likely also tell the story of Arthur Curry in another universe within DCU.
