It has been 10 years since SCREAM 4 was released, and this hit horror franchise initiated by the late Wes Craven and screenwriter Kevin Williamson will return with its latest film in 2022. The SCREAM films always revolve around a group of people who survive a killer terrorizing teenagers in the town of Woodsboro. SCREAM 2022 will take place 25 years after a series of brutal murders in the town of Woodsboro. Now, a new killer wearing the Ghostface mask is targeting a group of teenagers to revive the secrets of the deadly past of the town.
Scream 2022 is the fifth film overall, following SCREAM (1996), SCREAM 2 (1997), SCREAM 3 (2000) AND SCREAM 4 (2011).
The original cast of this film, Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox, will all reprise their roles as Sidney, Dewey, and Gale. However, in the film SCREAM 2022, this trio of characters, who have been through a lot together, will pass the baton to a new generation.
There are new cast members from Woodsboro who will be terrorized by Ghostface, including Melissa Barrera as Sam Carpenter, Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter, Dylan Minnette as Wes Hicks, Jack Quaid as Richie Kirsch, and many more.
The previous four films of the SCREAM franchise were directed by the horror legend Wes Craven. Unfortunately, Craven passed away in 2015, so the new directors for SCREAM 2022 are Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. The directing duo previously worked on the film READY OR NOT.
Although SCREAM is a horror film, it has never been released during Halloween celebrations. Two SCREAM films were released before Christmas, while the other two were released in the beginning of the year. Now, the film SCREAM 2022 will be released on January 14, 2022, in theaters.
