Survival movies are a film genre where characters are trapped in extreme situations in order to survive with all the limitations they face. From unexpected natural conditions, being stranded on a remote island, to even being trapped in outer space, the characters are forced to not give up.

1. ‘CAST AWAY’ (2000)

Chuck, who is on a shipping plane abroad, is unfortunate to be caught in a storm in the Pacific Ocean. He is the only survivor and stranded on a remote island with several packages that can be used as supplies. With all his limitations, he is forced to adapt to life on the island for years.

The government took 'half-caste' children, who were of mixed Aboriginal and white descent, and sent them thousands of miles away to be 're-educated' to become servants for white people. Molly, Daisy, and Grace, who were still a family, soon escaped to the north, following the fence that kept rabbits out of settlements.

3. '127 HOURS' (2010)

This film is based on a true story that KLovers can watch on Disney+ Hotstar. In April 2003, Aron Ralston, an engineer and mountaineer, went on a trip to Blue John Canyon to spend the weekend. Aron went without telling anyone.

On his journey, Aron met Kristi and Megan, who were lost and spent time together before eventually parting ways. However, bad luck struck Aron when a boulder suddenly fell, trapping his hand. Days without food and water made Aron hallucinate. Aron made a big decision to gradually survive.

4. ‘BURIED’ (2010)

Paul Conroy is a truck driver who worked in Iraq in 2006. When he opens his eyes, Paul wakes up in darkness and slowly realizes that he is trapped inside a wooden coffin.

5. ‘LIFE OF PI’ (2012)

However, one day the city government no longer supports the existence of the zoo, which makes them have to move and sell the animals to Canada.

The Japanese cargo ship that Pi's family boarded turned out to sink due to a storm. Pi then survived in the middle of the Pacific Ocean in a lifeboat with a zebra, orangutan, hyena, and male Bengal tiger.

6. ‘THE IMPOSSIBLE’ (2012)

An English family is enjoying their Christmas vacation at a resort in Thailand. Maria, Henry, and their three children are relaxing by the resort's pool, which is located by the beach, when suddenly a tsunami hits.

This small family is separated, with Maria and her eldest child and Henry with his two younger children. They continue to survive without knowing each other's condition, whether they have survived or died. This film can be watched by KLovers on Netflix or Hulu.

7. ‘GRAVITY’ (2013)

This film about surviving in outer space can be legally watched by KLovers on Apple TV. It tells the story of 3 Space Shuttle Explorer crew members who are on the STS-157 mission. Matt Kowalski, Dr. Ryan Stone, and Shariff Dasari are walking in space without knowing about the explosion in a Russian satellite.

Before they can do anything, the debris from the explosion hits their spacecraft, leaving only Matt and Ryan as survivors. Their communication with Houston control is also cut off. In addition to the dire situation where Ryan's oxygen is running low, can they safely return to Earth?

8. ‘THE REVENANT’ (2015)

In the 1820s in America, specifically in the Missouri Desert, Hugh Glass and his son named Hawk lead a hunting expedition. In the midst of the winter, they were trapped in an uncharted territory by the Arikara, a fierce Indian tribe.

As they try to return to Fort Kiowa, a grizzly bear suddenly attacks Hugh brutally, leaving him on the brink of death.
