According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday (27/11), Richard Curtis did not provide detailed explanations regarding their discussions, but he stated that Julia Roberts did not agree with the direction of the story being developed. In the sequel plan, the characters Anna Scott (played by Julia Roberts) and William Thacker (Hugh Grant) undergo a divorce.

"I had once proposed the idea for NOTTING HILL where they (Anna and Will) get divorced. Julia thought it was a very bad idea," said Richard.
