'STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER' Earns Rp 6.8 Trillion in Its First Week

In general, this film continues the story from STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (2017). The members of the Resistance are still fighting against the First Order, but this time the Resistance is very vulnerable after their headquarters was destroyed.

The First Order is now led by Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) after he killed Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis). Ren is very ambitious to make the First Order very strong, so he is eager to attack the Resistance. On the other hand, even though the Resistance is outnumbered, they are trying to rise up against the First Order.

Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) starts gathering people to rebuild the Resistance. One of the people who helps the Resistance is Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams), an old character who appeared in the STAR WARS film series. He previously appeared in STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (1980) and STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI (1983).

STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER is one of the big films released during the holiday season, since STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS was released before the 2015 holiday season.

The worldwide earnings of the Star Wars film reached more than US$ 500 million (Rp 7 trillion). On December 30, the revenue generated in North America amounted to approximately US$176 million (IDR 4.5 trillion) in its first week. However, unlike the previous film series, this film still falls short of the revenue of the two previous series. However, this latest film has proven to be the audience's choice at the cinema on Christmas Day.

JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL which was released on December 13, earned US$12.5 million and the film LITTLE WOMEN garnered around US$6 million on its opening day.
The ninth series of STAR WARS concludes the battle between Daisy Ridley's Rey and Adam Driver's Kylo Ren, as well as closing the epic family drama of the Skywalkers.

Shawn Robbins, the chief analyst at Boxoffice.com, told CNN Business that Star Wars has always been a myth passed down like old stories.
"Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" has seen a surge in the number of viewers, as it is the end of one of the most famous movie stories, said Robbins. “This is the end of the trilogy of trilogies” he said.

“This is an event for several generations, including audiences who have grown up with the franchise from day one to the prequel generation, and now, the current generation who will create new films and pass them on again”. The film, which grossed over $500 million (IDR 7 trillion) worldwide, did not take inflation into account.

However, unfortunately, RISE OF THE SKYWALKER has become controversial among the public. Various comments have emerged regarding the ninth film in the Star Wars anthology. This film holds a score of 58% on the Rotten Tomatoes review site - a sharp drop from the scores of FORCE AWAKENS and THE LAST JEDI which were 93% and 91% respectively.

Meanwhile, according to CinemaScore, since its premiere, this film has received a grade of 'B+'. This is the only Star Wars film from Disney that has received a grade lower than 'A'. The response obtained is a decline in Disney films throughout the Star Wars films that have ever existed.
