The film SISU is the latest work from director Jalmari Helander, released in 2022. This film is an extraordinary achievement by Helander, who is already known for his works such as RARE EXPORTS: A CHRISTMAS TALE and BIG GAME.

Carrying the genres of action, adventure, and war, the film SISU tells the story of the main character named Aatami Korpi (played by Jorma Tommila), a war veteran from Finland. The word "Sisu" in Finnish refers to strong determination, courage, and resilience in facing difficulties. The character Aatami perfectly represents the spirit of SISU.

The thrilling action presented in this film is balanced with depictions of brutal yet captivating war settings, especially in scenes set against the cold and quiet wilderness of Finland. The film SISU is set in late 1944, towards the end of World War II, in the remote region of Lapland, Finland, which is still under Nazi occupation. The story focuses on Aatami Korpi, a war veteran who chooses to live in solitude after experiencing trauma from the brutal battles he faced in the past.

He lives in the middle of the wilderness, far from the crowds, and leads his life as a miner with makeshift tools. He digs for gold and collects large chunks of gold, giving Aatami a glimmer of hope to start a new life.

While riding his horse towards the city, accompanied by his loyal dog, Aatami accidentally encounters a Wehrmacht platoon of 30 men led by SS Obersturmführer Bruno Helldorf (played by Aksel Hennie) and his subordinate Wolf (played by Jack Doolan), who are destroying settlements in their escape and have captured several Finnish women.

Realizing that gold can be a valuable treasure, the Nazi soldiers try to seize it from Aatami by any means, unaware of who the old man they are facing truly is.

The film then turns into an epic battle between Aatami and the Nazis. During the chase and battle with the Nazi soldiers, Aatami uses his intelligence and survival skills to defeat his enemies.

Aatami, who appears to be a simple old man, actually possesses extraordinary combat abilities. As a former soldier nicknamed "the immortal man" due to his resilience, he faces the much stronger and larger Nazi army with determination and bravery.
