With many theaters around the world currently closed or operating at limited capacity, Nolan insisted on delaying the release of TENET until theaters could reopen.

TENET was eventually released in select theaters in the US on September 3. However, in other countries like the United Kingdom, the movie officially premiered on August 26. TENET was considered a risk because it was seen as the answer to the decline in box office revenue due to the pandemic. It is difficult for any film to succeed financially, critically, and attract tired audiences during a pandemic, but so far, TENET seems to have been able to meet that challenge.

One step in the right direction for this film is the approval of Tom Cruise. The 58-year-old daredevil posted a video on his official Twitter account where he attended the premiere of TENET in London. Despite always wearing a mask, Cruise was still recognized by his fans. At the end of the screening, one of the viewers asked Cruise if he enjoyed the movie, and he replied, "I loved it."
