Although her father works in the financial industry, Cha Joo Young stressed that wealth is not a part of her life. She even revealed that the decision to study abroad was not her choice, but a sudden decision made by her parents who wanted to equip her with experience.

Cha Joo Young shared that at that time she was active in dance, and suddenly her parents decided to send her abroad. “I thought I would be sent to the United States, but it turned out to be Malaysia. I asked why, and in the blink of an eye, I was already in Malaysia,” she said. This shows how quickly her life changed without her consent.

She continued, “My parents said that since I would be continuing my studies in the US or the UK, they wanted me to first understand the Southeast Asian market.” This decision made her feel forced and lacking control over her future.

2. Different Family Expectations

Cha Joo Young's strict and patriarchal family environment made her feel that the acting world was not a viable option for her. “I grew up in an environment that made it hard for me to imagine the acting world. I was used to doing what my father commanded,” she said. This illustrates how difficult it was for her to achieve her dreams amidst differing family expectations.

Cha Joo Young also recounted her father's strong opposition when she decided to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. “When I appeared in Cheese in the Trap, my father said he was willing to pay the contract penalty for me to quit,” she revealed. Despite many challenges, she remained determined to chase her dreams and prove that she could succeed without her family's wealth.
