Collaboration with Sandrayati Fay Produces New Song, Nearly Eight Minutes Long

Kapanlagi.com - Singer Iwan Fals has just released his latest single titled 16/01 under the Musica Studio label. In the song 16/01, the singer, whose full name is Virgiawan Listanto, collaborated with Sandrayati Fay.

A singer known as one of the members of the Daramuda Project trio with Rara Sekar and Danilla Riyadi. Interestingly, the collaboration between Iwan Fals and Sandrayati was the idea of his eldest child, Annisa Cikal Rambu Basae, or better known as Cikal.

"At first, I didn't think about it, it was from Cikal, I didn't mind, so be it," said Iwan Fals in a virtual press conference on Friday (30/7/2021).

Apparently, the song 16/01 has a profound meaning. This reflects Iwan Fals' situation in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"When I heard others telling the same story, there was a similarity. This is my anxiety. This song is not contrived at all. So, it truly depicts the mood, and suddenly this song was created," said Iwan Fals.

The process of working on the song 16/01 can be said to be very unique. What's interesting is that Cikal and Sandrayati spent more time in the studio to finish the song.

"As for me, I just left it, had coffee, while she was in the studio with Cikal. She's not a child anymore, earlier she talked about the importance of health, I didn't think about it. Suddenly, I found an amazing writing partner, it's a blessing for the song," she said.

The collaboration between Iwan Fals and Sandrayati resulted in a song that can be considered quite long, almost eight minutes. So, what's the reason Iwan Fals made a song with such a long duration?

"I don't know, I just let it flow, and when it's done, I show up. I didn't participate in the process, afraid that if I did, I would become fussy. Lately, I've been enjoying long songs," said Iwan Fals.

On the same occasion, Sandrayati admitted that she felt happy to collaborate with Iwan Fals. "Afraid, but also happy, actually when I heard this song, the melody just flowed and I accidentally wrote the lyrics," Sandrayati concluded.
