Duo Maia Comeback? Maia Estianty: We're Just Waiting for the Ball!

The presence of Maia Estianty and Mey Chan on the same stage has once again sparked public questions about the possibility of a Duo Maia comeback. Many fans are longing for new works from this iconic duo. So, what do they think?

Mey Chan provided a realistic answer while still keeping the door open. She mentioned that currently, they are taking a more relaxed approach to their music career. There are no specific targets to chase popularity or aggressively release a new album.

"Maybe we are already at the point of not waiting for the ball. So we are not going out to chase it. We just wait for the ball, if there’s work, and the price is right, we go. If the price is not right, we don’t go, that’s it," said Mey Chan casually.

Maia also agrees with her duet partner's statement. At her age, which is no longer young, Maia feels it is time to give the younger generation a chance to shine. She enjoys her role behind the scenes or taking on jobs that she truly enjoys.

"There are many young people. They are already 18 years old, Boss. So for me, since I have three grown children, I give opportunities to the younger ones because there are many talented young people. So we just live as legends," said the wife of Irwan Mussry.

Nevertheless, Maia does not rule out the possibility of continuing to create. For her, music has become a part of her life. However, her approach now is more relaxed and based solely on enjoyment."Now we sing just because we enjoy it," said Maia.

Both agreed that they do not want to force themselves. If there is an interesting and suitable performance offer, they will happily accept it. However, if not, they remain happy with their respective activities.

"And Bunda and I also already have our own activities, right? So if there’s work, let’s go, it’s more relaxed, not like before when we used to work several times a week," added Mey Chan.

Maia also emphasized that being a "legend" does not mean stopping to create. For her, the evergreen works of Duo Maia are still being sung and appreciated by many people, and that has become an achievement in itself.

"That's why I said earlier that we live as legends. Our work is still being sung, sung again, right? Well, we are happy that the young people today still appreciate it," concluded Maia.
