GBS Discusses the Phenomenon of 'Jingga' as They Focus on Releasing Singles Throughout 2022

Kapanlagi.com - Gugun Blues Shelter, or now known as GBS, is one of the few veteran bands still active in the Indonesian music industry. Since 2004, this trio has released a total of 10 albums.

In 2022, GBS plans to focus more on releasing singles. They have already prepared several new titles, one of which is Jingga, which was released on May 26, 2022, under the DeMajors label.

With a strong foundation in blues rock with soul/r&b influences, Jingga also showcases GBS's best pop side. It is a harmonious collaboration between Gugun as the main songwriter and the excellent rhythm section of GBS - bassist Fajar and drummer Bowie - who deliver hot and infectious grooves throughout the track.

1. Highlighting the Theme of Sunset

Thematically, Jingga is Gugun's personal response to the popular 'sunset' phenomenon in Indonesian music in recent years.

"The trend of new musicians, new music fans, themes, and everything about 'sunset' that has collectively emerged lately. I don't know what it means, but it has prompted me to react," said Gugun.

2. Try to Keep Up with the Times' Development

Jingga was recorded in live recording format at Velvet Studio, Jakarta. The mixing and mastering process was done by Giovanni Guidi, who has also worked with popular bands such as Noah and Mocca. The artwork for Jingga was done by Kating, an illustrator from Cilacap who is also a fan of GBS, with a style and color that suggests the metaverse universe.

"The basic sketch comes from my scribbles, then translated by Kating incredibly. It is indeed inspired by the aesthetics of the metaverse, a different universe, as a celebration of the times as well," explained Gugun.

"Of course, conversations about NFTs, metaverses, have just emerged in our lives. If the trend is like that, why not? We will try it," added Gugun in response to the possibility of GBS's expression development entering the blockchain realm that is currently trending.

The single Jingga is now available and can be enjoyed on various digital streaming platforms, such as Spotify, Apple Music, Joox, Resso, YouTube Music, and Deezer. Have any KLovers listened to it yet?
