Grease The Musical Ready to Entertain Jakarta: Rahmania Astrini as Sandy Dumbrowski

The performance is scheduled to take place on February 15-16, 2025, at the Taman Ismail Marzuki Grand Theater. OMG Entertainment and Yasmara, as the organizers, are committed to bringing a Broadway atmosphere through a production involving young Indonesian talents.

“Grease is a big title that has been recognized worldwide since the 70s. This is an opportunity for the Indonesian people to enjoy a world-class musical,” said Yasmin Alvina, the producer of the show, at a press conference in SCBD, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (5/2/2025).

Singer Rahmania Astrini has been chosen to play the character Sandy Dumbrowski, an iconic figure in this story. Rahmania admitted she was shocked when she received the offer, considering the high expectations for the character of Sandy.

1. Very Grateful

“Actually, I was quite shocked to be offered to play such a very iconic character. I was very scared too, but overall I am very grateful because this is my second musical drama,” said Rahmania.

In addition to Rahmania, the show also features Gusty Pratama as Danny Zuko and Briggita Cynthia, a former member of the girlband CherryBelle, as Frenchie. They are part of Indonesia's young talents who successfully passed through a strict audition.

“The young talents of Indonesia are very capable in the fields of acting, singing, and dancing. We are looking for a triple threat, especially in dancing, because this musical is heavy on dancing,” said Alexander Damara, the director of Grease The Musical.

Rahmania faces a big challenge, especially because she has to adjust to Sandy's high vocal character. “I am an alto, but Sandy's voice is very high. In almost three months, I have to practice vocals to reach the notes that Sandy has,” she explained.

2. A Unique Challenge

It's not just about the vocals; the choreography in this musical also presents a unique challenge for Rahmania. “I love to dance, but I'm not used to dancing. Here, it really feels like being enchanted, until I can do it too,” she added. Support from the other cast members greatly helped Rahmania overcome various difficulties.

Meanwhile, Grease The Musical involves several big names behind the scenes, including choreographer Sheila Gianetti, who is known for her experience in the world of dance. This production is expected to serve as a bridge for the Indonesian people to enjoy a world-class theater experience.

“Our two previous works were original stories. This time we are taking on a big title, *Grease*, with high expectations from the audience. We are excited but pressured at the same time, but we will continue to do our best,” concluded Yasmin Alvina.
