"In addition to the most romantic jazz performances, Jazz Gunung has a commitment to maintain a larger composition of jazz musicians and also open up opportunities for talented young jazz musicians who are worthy of performing in front of the Jama'ah Al-Jazziyah (the audience of Jazz Gunung)," said Bagas Indyatmono.

Furthermore, Bagas said that the curation formula for performers is done using the LEICA method (Legend, Emerging, International, Collaboration / Community, Anchor). These five criteria must be included in the musicians we choose to perform. In addition, as a form of commitment to sustainability and local empowerment, Jazz Gunung Bromo involves 85% of the committee members from the local community. Additionally, all vendors are also local, including transportation, consumption, and accommodation.

Jazz Gunung Bromo 2024 has entered its 16th edition. This year, the music festival, which has been held since 2009, is the second event in the Jazz Gunung Series 2024, which will be held at the Amfiteater Jiwa Jawa Bromo, Sukapura village, Probolinggo, East Java, on Friday-Saturday, July 19-20, 2024, with a capacity of 2,500 spectators per day.

Jazz Gunung Series 2024 is present to meet the needs of music enthusiasts who want to witness their favorite musicians in a different way, blending with the beautiful atmosphere of Mount Bromo Tengger Semeru.

"With the presentation and concept of Jazz Gunung that has been going on for more than a decade, Jazz Gunung Series 2024 has its own place and enthusiasts. And most importantly, every Jazz Gunung event has an economic impact that reaches the community. What we have been doing for the past 16 years with Jazz Gunung Bromo also motivates people to organize jazz music in open spaces and provide economic benefits to the community," said Sigit Pramono.

The performers who attended this press conference expressed their enthusiasm. As Lita Zein said, "We were initially formed as a vocal jazz group, so we have a lot of jazz songs in our repertoire but limited opportunities to perform at jazz festivals. When invited to Jazz Gunung, yes, we can finally perform our jazz repertoire. Our harmony will be accompanied by Yongky Vincent."

"For 30 years we have performed on stage at many festivals. Some jazz festivals have invited us. Usually, the people backstage are the same. It's great when we enter a new genre, especially Thomas and I can meet jazz musician friends backstage to build brotherhood, friendship, and have different musical conversations. Romance happens here," explained Armand Maulana jokingly while attending the Jazz Gunung Bromo press conference at IFI, Jakarta.

3. Build International Ecosystem and Education Line

As a form of concern for Jazz music in Indonesia, as an event that has been running for more than a decade, Jazz Gunung Indonesia wants to contribute to the jazz music education line by organizing Bromo Jazz Camp starting from July 17-20, 2024. In addition, they also want to build an international ecosystem.

Since 2018, Jazz Gunung Indonesia has been collaborating with Institut français Indonésie. The hope is to create a strong ecosystem of musicians and organizers internationally. "So that there is a structured bridge for jazz that can be easily accessed by many people. Starting last year, IFI offered, but starting this year, Jazz Gunung Indonesia also participates in curating," explained Bimo Putra.

Furthermore, Bimo said that French musicians who have played at Jazz Gunung Bromo are very appreciative of the talent of Indonesian jazz musicians. According to them, Indonesian jazz musicians cannot be confined to just one jazz genre.

The emerging trio formed in 2018, Noe Clerc Trio, was curated to perform at Jazz Gunung Bromo 2024. They will come early to participate in the residency at Bromo Jazz Camp.

This program is organized in collaboration with Legato Jazz Camp. Together with Kevin Yosua, Sri Hanuraga, and Hansen Arief as instructors. Later, the participants of Bromo Jazz Camp will present their works directly on the stage of Jazz Gunung Bromo 2024.

"The plan has been there since 2 years ago for this jazz camp. But last year, in 2019, we already created the Bintang Mencari Bintang program in Banyuwangi with the same goal, which is jazz musician education and regeneration. At that time, the program was run by Bintang Indrianto," Bagas explained.

According to Kevin, 10 participants who were selected from the Legato Jazz Camp that was held in Solo some time ago will continue their advanced classes here and participate in the residency at Bromo Jazz Camp.

In addition, starting from 2023, Jazz Gunung Indonesia has created the Dijamin Jam program. Located in Rehat Bromo. During the Jazz Gunung Bromo 2024 event, the audience of Jazz Gunung Bromo can join in jamming with the SoJazz community (Solo) who has been appointed as the host this year.

Not only SoJazz will perform, usually the performers of Jazz Gunung Bromo also participate in the jam session. The audience and performers can interact with each other here.

“Last year was very lively and successful, the audience and performers were very enthusiastic about this program. Especially the performers who came from abroad. They looked happy and the atmosphere felt warmer because anyone could interact through music or conversation," Bagas concluded.
