Long Time Inactive, Phoenix Collaborates Again with the Coppola Brothers to Create Their Latest Single

Unfortunately, none of the aforementioned names will be discussed here. Equally famous as Avenged Sevenfold in the 90s rock era, Phoenix also managed to release works that were loved by many people. Almost all of their albums managed to reach the top 7 on the Billboard charts. And until now, Phoenix has held many world music concert tours.

Finally, this French rock band managed to satisfy their fans' longing! After 2 years of silence, Phoenix released their latest single, Identical, which they consider very special.

According to NME.com, this song was released to commemorate Philippe Zdar, a French musician who passed away last year at the age of 52. Philippe Zdar himself was their friend and also their own producer. He has been instrumental in Phoenix's career all this time.

Because, when Phoenix's debut was in chaos, Philippe stepped in to replace the previous producer and successfully saved their debut album in 2000. Continuing with their next album, which was also produced by Philippe entitled WOLFGANG AMADEUS PHOENIX. This album won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 2010. The same goes for their other albums, BANKRUPT (2013) and TI AMO (2017).

"Philippe is a legend. Of course, our band owes him a lot, as he spent hundreds of hours lifting us up with his talent, enthusiasm, and generosity," they said.

Not only that, Phoenix also collaborated with the Coppola siblings (Sofia Coppola and Roman Coppola) in the release of this special single. You should know that Phoenix previously worked on the soundtracks of two films by Sofia Coppola entitled THE BEGUILED and SOMEWHERE. Similarly, Sofia herself directed a music video for Phoenix titled Chloroform. No wonder Phoenix often collaborates with Coppola. It turns out that Phoenix's lead vocalist, Thomas Mars, is none other than the husband of Sofia Coppola.

This time, their single's music video was directed and made by Sofia's brother, Roman Coppola. And once again, their latest single is rumored to be the original soundtrack of Sofia Coppola's upcoming film, ON THE ROCKS, which will be released in October.
